Loomz exists because of one student.

And one very patient set of parents.

We're Kieran & Sudesh, the people behind Loomz, a small, independent UK family business inspired by our son Elliot's three years of university life.

When he first moved into halls, we thought we'd covered everything.

Bedding. Kitchen stuff. Desk essentials.

"Everything you'll ever need."

Apparently not.

Three years. A lot of lessons.

University living has its own rules.

Rooms are small. Storage is limited. Bathrooms can be... interesting. And landlords generally aren't keen on students drilling holes into walls.

Then came shared houses, questionable heating, multiple moves and the occasional item that mysteriously disappeared.

Along the way, we learned what students actually use.

What saves space. What survives moving day. What isn't worth buying. And what can make a temporary, slightly beige student room feel more like home.

That experience became the idea behind Loomz.

Why Loomz?

Students don't need another enormous shop selling everything imaginable.

They need an easier answer to one question:

What do I actually need for university?

That's what we're building Loomz around.

We look for products that make sense for real student life:

Meet the People Behind Loomz

Loomz started with our experience as university parents, but between us we've spent decades working across retail, technology, e-commerce, customer experience and business operations.

It turns out that's quite useful when you're building an online shop.

Kieran O'Byrne: Technology, E-Commerce & Customer Experience

Kieran's career has spanned technology, e-commerce, enterprise software, AI, cloud computing and Customer Success.

He spent around 20 years with IBM, including technical and commercial roles in e-commerce, solution architecture, AI and cloud, before moving into technology start-ups, scale-ups and global SaaS businesses.

Much of his career has been about one thing: using technology to solve problems and give customers a better experience.

At Loomz, that means the website, technology, e-commerce and customer journey, plus an obsessive interest in making things work better.

Sudesh O'Byrne: Retail, Operations & People

Sudesh brings decades of hands-on retail experience.

Her career has covered store and area management, retail operations, HR, training, customer service, stock, profitability and the realities of running growing multi-site retail businesses.

At Futon Company, she progressed to Retail Operations Director and helped oversee the business as it grew from five stores to a peak of 34.

She later founded her own food business before returning to multi-site retail operations, being instrumental in driving another independent retailer grow from 7 stores to more than 20.

In other words, Sudesh knows what customers actually want, what makes a useful product and what good retail service should look like.

Together, we bring:

And Elliot supplied the expertise neither of us had:
